There
was a young couple; the husband’s name was Chang Gui and Lian Xiang was the
wife. Every morning both of them would bring the vegetables from their farm to
sell in the market.
They
lived a happy and contented life even they are not rich.
One
morning, there was a lady came to their stall to buy some vegetables.
Lian
Xiang politely greeted her and started their
chitchat.
The
lady invited Lian Xiang to join her for
a Dhamma Talk in the temple nearby in that evening.
In
the evening, Lian Xiang went to the temple to listen to the Dhamma Talk.
The
master talked about the benefits of Nian Fo and to abstain from killing. Lian
Xiang was very happy to hear the Dhamma Talk that evening.
Since
then, she intended to practice Nian Fo (Amituofo). Every morning upon waking up
she would recite Amituofo before she
left
her house for the market.
Everyday,
she did her work of selling vegetables plus Nian Fo happily.
Actually
Nian Fo and becoming a vegetarian is good, unfortunately Lian Xiang’s husband;
Chang Gui disagreed with her.
She
did cook meat for him but she only ate the vegetables. Chang Gui was very angry
with her.
He
just wanted to obstruct her from Nian Fo and to become a vegetarian.
He found
many ways to obstruct her from continuing her practice.
Lian
Xiang was a very nice lady. She patiently
tolerated her husband’s nuisance. Despite all the efforts to stop her from the
practice, Lian Xiang’s faith became stonger.
At
last, he sold his vegetable stall in the market and started to rare pigs in his
farmyard. His purpose was to slaughter the pigs and to sell them in the market.
The
husband purposely asked her to hold the pig’s legs when he slaughtered the
pigs.
She
was very frighten and sad to see the pigs being slaughtered but she could not
do a thing as her husband’s purpose was to create troubles for her.
So,
she just recited Amituofo endlessly for the pigs every time her husband brought
the pigs to her and asked her to hold their legs and he would
slaughter them. The louderthe
pigs cried the harder she recited. Until
the pig completely stop breathing.
This
job was carried on for quite some time.
As
days went by, Lian Xiang’s faith in Nian Fo (migrate to Xi Fang Ji Le Shi Jie) has
grown firmer and unshakeable.
One
fine evening, while she was mending her clothes, she saw a beam of light
shining into her house. When she raised her head, she saw many pigs in the air.
At once she realized that they were coming to take her life.
She
knelt down and asked for forgiveness (for killing them ) and she was ready to
repay the enmities.

Out
of a sudden, all the pigs transformed into Pusa’s form. One of
them
told Lian Xiang, they were
there
to inform her that because of
her
diligence in Nian Fo, Amituofo will come to ‘fetch’ her home in three days and
asked her to be prepared.
They
were the pigs that received the merits of her recitation of Amituofo every time
Chang Gui slaughtered them. They have all rose to Xi Fang Ji Le Shi Jie
already.They were very grateful to Lian Xiang.
After
delivering the message, they disappeared in the air.
The
next morning, Lian Xiang told her husband that she will be going home.
The
husband felt surprised as they had been married for so many years, as he knows,
she had no where to go accept this home.
Lian
Xiang told Chang Gui, the home that she meant was Xi Fang Ji Le Shi Jie. Anyway
Chang Gui did not believe what she said.
Lian
Xiang started tidying up her belongings and gave away some that still can be
use to the neighbors.
She
sorted out Chang Gui’s winter clothings and summer clothings and put them
nicely in separate shelves.
She
told Chang Gui where his clothings were,
because for the rest of the days, Chang Gui will have to take care of himself
without her presence. Chang Gui still did not believe what Lian Xiang had said.
Anyway
three days was not too far away. Chang Gui and his friends would wait to see
whether it was true.
In
the morning of the third day, Lian Xiang woke up extra early. After she took a
good bath, she wore a pair of new clothes and started her recitation of Amituofo
Meritorious Name.
Lian
Xiang was concentrating in reciting Amituofo.
By
the time Chang Gui woke up, he was surprised that the whole
house
was wafted with a kind of nice scent. He
was wondering where the scent came from!
He
saw Lian Xiang sitting in front of the house and concentrating Nian Fo.
Many
anxious neighbors gathered in the garden of their house to see what will happen
next.
After
a while, to their surprise, they saw with their own eyes, Amituofo ,Guan Yin
Pusa, Da Shi Zhi Pusa and the rest of the Pusa appeared with a lotus in the
air.
They
saw Lian Xiang’s Shen Shi (神识soul) stepping up
the lotus and disappeared with Amituofo into the air.
Every
body was so shock and were extremely surprise to see this happening.
Chang Gui regreted for not believing the wife’s words.
He was so scared that he sat down on the floor without knowing what to do.
After this happening, Chang Gui regreted for what he had done to obstruct
Lian Xiang from her practice.
He went to see the Master in the temple and vowed to
recite Amituofo and to cultivate good deeds for the rest of his life.

Our Dhamma teacher (Sutra speaking teacher) is Master
Chin Kung (净空老法师)。
Most of us including myself have not meet Master Chin
Kung in real life. This is not a problem because I can listen to his Dhamma
talk through the VCDs/DVDs whenever I have time at home. This is very
convenient. In this way, I can attend Master’s class at home everyday.
The Dhamma Report that I have written were the notes
from the Dhamma lessons given by Master Chin Kung which I have attended so far.
Attending classes at home (by watching the DVDs)
is just like meeting Master Chin Kung everyday.
I bow to my teacher ( Master Chin Kung) before
attending the lessons, after that I bow again to thank him for the Dhamma
lessons.
I gained a lot from this practice.
